Central Machinery #120 Wood Shaper (Just Sat Unused?)

MANUAL INCLUDED!! (Wood Shaper in Great Condition)

It just sat 99% of the time like an ornament. No kidding.

Used once for testing, that’s it. (In great condition with some typical cobwebs removed.)

Do you have blocks of wood you would like to shape?

This wood shaper is like a giant up-side-down table router.

You can run strips or blocks of wood through the cutting spindle and have such precision  & beautiful cuts for kitchen doors, picture frames, stair rails, ect...

Cuts? The cut shapes are formed depending on what type of router bit you would use on the spindle.

The machine has three different types of interchangeable spindles. (1/2”, Ύ” & 1”)

About each spindle: (3 of them are laying next to left side of the main drive spindle.)

(?) – Email me through Ebay.

The ½“ Spindle:

The Diameter of the bolt itself is ½”Dia. (Used for ½” Dia. Bore Router Bits to slide on to)

The Ύ” Flat wrench is included for the both screws on this spindle. (or you can use a Ύ” Socket instead to tighten or loosen the both screws) – Yes each spindle has two screws to secure the router bits.

Spacers – This spindle also has a

½” Vertical Spacer and a

Ύ” Vertical Spacer too.

The length of the ½” dia. spindle itself is 3–3/16” long.

The 3/4“ Spindle:

The Diameter of the bolt itself is Ύ” Dia. (Used for Ύ” Dia. Bore Router Bits to slide On to)

The Flat wrench is included for the both screws on this spindle. (or you can use a Socket instead to tighten or loosen the both screws)

– Yes each spindle has two screws to secure the router bits.

Spacers – This spindle also has a

Vertical Spacer,

13/16” Vertical Spacer. (Close to 3/4”)

5/8” Vertical Spacer,

3/8” Vertical Spacer and a,

3/16” Vertical Spacer too.

The length of the 3/4” dia. spindle itself is 4–3/4” long.

The Spindle:

The Diameter of the bolt itself is Dia. (Used for Dia. Bore Router Bits to slide on to)

The 1-1/2” Flat wrench is included for the both screws on this spindle. (or you can use a 1-1/2” Socket instead to tighten or loosen the both screws)

– Yes each spindle has two screws to secure the router bits.

Spacers – This spindle also has a

Vertical Spacer,

Ύ” Vertical Spacer.

9/16” Vertical Spacer, (Close to ½”)

3/8” Vertical Spacer and a,

3/16” Vertical Spacer too.

The length of the dia. spindle itself is long.

Sometimes these spacers are used for more shorter bore router bits if the height of those router bits are not higher then where the thread would begin from the bottom/cone of the spindle.

Each spindle has its secure lock washer. The both screws for each spindle would need to

be tighten together clock-wise to secure the bit, spacers and the lock washer too.

To install any of the three spindles:

You can lock the main drive spindle in place by gently pulling it out and turning the mendrel handle (on the left side of the machine) 90 degrees to the left / right and push it back in while swiveling the main drive spindle until it’s locked in position. (Manual will explain that and more).

Speed settings, rotation direction and spindle height:

Speed settings:

This machine has two different speed settings. (By adjusting the belts at the rear of the machine.) - (?) – Email me through Ebay.

#1. is @ 7,000 R.P.M’s &

#2. is @ 10,000 R.P.M’s

Spindle rotation direction:

About using the rotation switch on the front right side of the machine next to spindle hand well.

If you turn the switch dial to the right where it is marked “FOR” on the panel and turn the machine on, the spindle shaft will rotate clock-wise. (Has no effect on the R.P.M. Speed.)

If you turn the switch dial to the left where it is marked “REV” on the panel and turn the machine on, the spindle shaft will rotate counter clock-wise. (Has no effect on the R.P.M. Speed.)

About the hand well:

Rotate the hand well Clockwise to raise the main spindle shaft up 4”. (From its lowest point.)

Rotate the hand well Counter-Clockwise to lower the main spindle shaft down 4”. (From its highest point.)

That triangle shaped dial right above the hand well locks the spindle height in place when you rotate that dial clockwise.

About the fences on the cutting surface:

Bringing them back or forward:

If you look at the main spindle shaft, you can see the 2 metal pieces (about 2” high) about 2 inches apart (from the middle of the spindle) on both sides of it.

Both fences can come forward only up to or they will slide off the securing screws. (When each screw is turned counter clockwise to bring them forward.)

Or …

Both fences can come backwards only back to until they start to tighten in the slide of the securing screws. (When each screw is turned clockwise to bring them forward.)

(Manual will explain that) - (?) – Email me through Ebay.

Bringing them to the right or left:

Both fences can spread away (from the spindle shaft on both sides) only up to 1-7/8” away (from its most contract position) until you can not turn the dial any more

Or …

Both fences can contract (Back to the spindle shaft on both sides) only back to 1-7/8” until you can not turn the dial counter clockwise.

(Manual will explain that) - (?) – Email me through Ebay.

About the rear of the wood shaper:

There is an access door (About 18” Square & opens to the right) if you would need to get to the inner-shaft screw to release or tighten the spindles inner screw section.

Or…

To change the shaft speeds by changing the belt ratio.

(Manual will explain that) - (?) – Email me through Ebay.

Power consumption:

The motor is considered as an induction motor made by Change Iron Works Co. Ltd.

Horse Power = 3 hp. (Around 5.5 K Watts)

Weight of wood shaper:

The weight is between about 350 – 375 pounds and it’s on easy rolling wheels.

How I decided the starting bid Price:

The Central Machinery Wood Shaper was originally purchased at the price of  $1,249.95 stated on my receipt from Harbor Freight Salvage CO. (Some stuff blocked out for security purposes).

(?) – Email me through Ebay.

Comparing two wood shaper models built by the same company:

You can compare prices of other equivalent wood shapers at there websites if you like to do so.  Here are some examples. Click on this link…

http://www.grizzly.com/products/item.aspx?itemnumber-G1026

That wood shaper is priced at $895.00 with around half of the features it can do compared to this Central Machinery #120 Wood Shaper in this listing. - (?) – Email me through Ebay. The other link is…

http://www.grizzly.com/products/item.aspx?itemnumber-G5912Z

That wood shaper is priced at $2,050.00 with more of the features it can do compared to this Central Machinery #120 Wood Shaper in this listing. - (?) – Email me through Ebay.

If you average the prices and the features comparing those two Grizzly wood shapers together, It would come out to about $1,482.50.

That’s correct, that’s more then the price originally purchased at $1,249.95 for the Central Machinery wood shaper.

$132.55 More?

Well, let me continue.

Comparing two models built by different companies:

Here are two other equivalent wood shapers too with prices more then what my starting bid is.

http://www.southern-tool.com/store/3_hp_woodworking_shaper.html

http://www.southern-tool.com/store/powermatic%20_25a_20shaper.html

That Jet Wood Shaper is $1,373.82 and the Powermatic Wood Shaper is $1,915.34.

These prices are simply more for some of the other models.

That’s why my starting bid is $950.00. $299.95 less then the original price of $1,249.95.

Average the four wood shapers together:

For the average of the four wood shapers,

Grizzly G1026 3 HP Wood Shaper @ $895.00 (Not that many features as the Central Machinery #120 Wood Shaper) in this listing.

Grizzly G5912Z 5 HP Professional Wood Shaper @ $2,050.00

Jet JWS-25CS 3 HP Wood Shaper @ $1,373.82

Powermatic 25 A Wood Shaper @ $1,915.34

Add four of them up and divide by four….

$895.00 + $2,050.00 + $1,373.82 + $1,915.34 = $6234.16 / 4 Machines comes to $1,558.54.

$1,558.54 is more as compared to my starting bid of  $950.00.

$608.54 you save?

Before I go:

The heavy duty pad with the wheels the Central Machinery #120 wood shaper is bolted on to makes 350 – 375 pounds so easy to move. Yes, that pad comes with this wood shaper in my listing.
