Sears
Craftsman copy crafter for tubular bed wood lathes.
#113.249070
Can
create a copy of the spindle pattern from the last
created/existing spindle or from a template while forming the
duplicate spindle. There are two ways.
#01.
How is this accomplished using an existing spindle 2-1/2”
diameter or less?
You
can mount a spindle (once formed of your choice) up to 2-1/2”
diameter up to X 35” long max mounted on the Copy
Crafter while you can mount a separate 2-1/2” max
square shape X up to 35” long stock of wood on the
lathe itself.
The
post tool has guides or called following pins that would
navigate the post tool on the existing spindle mounted on the
copy crafter causing the cutting tool on the post tool to shave
the cuts into the rotating square shaped piece of wood on the
lathe.
#02.
How is this accomplished using a template while creating a
spindle larger then 2-1/2” diameter?
You
can mount a template (made out of steel/paper/wood or ect…) of
your choice on the copy crafter. Then, you can mount a separate 2-1/2”
to 11-1/2” max square shape X up to 35” long
sock of wood on your lathe depending of your lathe can work with
a stock of wood that large.
As
from #01 (with some similar info), the post tool has guides or
called following pins that would navigate the post tool on the
template mounted on the copy crafter causing the cutting tool on
the post tool to shave the cuts into the rotating square shaped
piece of wood on the lathe.
Because
of size of the stock of wood larger then 2-1/2”, you
would need to make any necessary height and depth adjustments to
the post tool blade before cutting.
For
the copy crafter to create the precise shape on the spindle
being formed, the copy crafter would need to be mounted on the
table section of the wood lathe. The alignment gauge which would
come with this copy craft is missing however, you could use
framing square/angle square/combination square to align to the
lathe when eyeballing up & down at the copy crafter’s both
cone point set screws to the lathe’s spur center point and its
cup center point too displayed in a picture.
Note:
The lathe the copy crafter is placed on (in one picture) is also
listed as item, #6045339449
here on Ebay if interested.
I
was unable to locate the bolts (that originally came with the
copy crafter) which would be used to mount the copy crafter to
the lathe table however, I can supply screws that best can fit
with the copy crafter when sold. What type of screws could be
used for mounting? Screw up to 3/8” diameter X 1-1/4
to 1-1/2” long. These are common screws you could
purchase at a hardware store at a cheap price.
Note:
The knobs attached to the post tool are not the original knobs
because of some damage made to both of them but, new knobs are
attached to it and just as strong and secure to
the post tool.
